Mobberley Fine Ales was established in July 2011 by two partners, Phil Roberts and Ray Britland. Our brewery is housed in an old milking parlour on a working farm, set in the heart of the Cheshire countryside.

Our aim is to brew consistently fine ales of a high quality, using only the ingredients of malted barley, wheat, hops and yeast, to produce traditional, natural, additive free products.

Starting with just one beer called “HedgeHopper”, our philosophy was to produce one beer extremely well rather than several badly and judging by the success of this beer to date, it has certainly given us a great start on which to build.

HedgeHopper is a delightful, golden ale brewed to our very own original recipe, with a rather fuller body than it’s ABV suggests and using a multitude of different malted barleys, it provides an experience of taste and is a “proper” bitter.

Product consistency is our prime concern and having now completed at least one brew a week of HedgeHopper since our start, it has proved to be a very consistent beer, maintaining the same high quality standard in every batch.

In October 2011, to meet demand from our growing customer base, we introduced a second beer, this time a pale ale and keeping with the same theme we named it “WhirlyBird”, a sweet yet full bodied pale ale, light yet complex, smooth with a subtle zesty finish, all in all, a delight!

Early in 2012, two more beers were introduced to increase our range, firstly a rich amber, full bodied best bitter named “BarnBuster” and a light, refreshing pale ale named “RoadRunner”.

So as we look forward, our objectives remain the same, to slowly increase both our customer base and the range of beers we offer, whilst being fastidious about maintaining the high quality and consistency of our beers!
